First preceptorship has been hosted by AP-HP, Hôpital Saint-Louis under the coordination of Prof Regis Peffault de la Tour. 3 participants from Czech Republic, Lithuania and United Kingdom have benefited from this short stays and have shared with us their own experiences.

ERN-EuroBloodNet has identified across Europe the healthcare areas including highly specialized procedures requiring preceptorship for the acquisition of medical expertise. First interventional healthcare area is focused in Inherited and acquired bone marrow failures including Aplastic Anaemia (AA) and Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria (PNH) in adult and pediatric patients, which counts with three preceptorship programs in Paris, Naples and Genova. The three programs have been recently accredited by EBAH!

The first preceptorship has been hosted by AP-HP, Hôpital Saint-Louis, Paris, France under the coordination of Prof Regis Peffault de la Tour  during 13-16 January 2020, where a total of 3 participants from Czech Republic, Lithuania and United Kingdom have benefited from this short stays and have shared with us their own experiences and feelings. Some of the comments were:

"This very first EuroBloodNet perceptorship surely exceeded my expectations. The majority of continuing education events I have ever attended were much more theoretically orientated. This perceptorship was totally different. It offered to us (a small group of three) not only up-to-date theoretical and scientific backround but also the insight into practical management of patients with rare hematological diseases at the highly specialized hematology centre - from the early diagnosis to treatment of complicated cases.

This stay also gave me the opportunity to assure that our national diagnostic and treatment approach is in accordance with the latest international guidelines.

Additionally, we had the opportunity to meet those famous hematologists from Saint-Louis and Robert-Debré Hospital. And believe me it is worth meeting them!

But what I appreciated most was an assurance at the end of this perceptorship that when I cope with a complicated case in the future there will be great specialists at Saint-Louis and Robert-Debré Hospital ready to support. And this was (in my opinion) one of the aims of EuroBloodNet - to stay linked and cooperate in the field of rare hematological diseases across the Europe.

And last but not least, this perceptorship made me much more interested and enthusiastic in this specific hematological topic.I would with no doubt recommend this perceptorhips to other potential participants."

"The preceptorship was a fantastic learning opportunity and possibly the only guarantee I've had in my career of being guided by world experts with every conversation. The teaching was perfect, the group size was ideal and the layout of the day worked well for us. It was refreshing that the doctors gave up their time to teach us and discuss patients with us when we know how busy they must be.

Most useful for me was seeing patients with PNH in clinic. This was more PNH patients than I have ever seen. In fact if the preceptorship were only 2 days and one morning was spent in clinic this would be good enough as the learning value of that clinic was so high!"

"The preceptorship on Bone marrow failures and PNH was perfectly designed. A detailed drafted agenda scheduled in four working days was practically and theoretically combined including the consultations of the patients with a very rare disease, the discussion of the clinical cases shared by the referent specialists as well as by the participants.

A deep focus on diagnostic tools and treating strategies let to understand the challenges of bone marrow disorders on overlapping age of children and adult. In addition, a highly motivated participants in a small group allowed to individualize the learning and to achieve a maximum result of education as well as to create the bridge for the future cooperation.

Thank you for the smooth logistics organized by the team. It highly ranks this preceptorship and suggests to continue organising these kind of events in the future for the EuroBloodNet members."

Thank you to all the participants for your wonderful words and to all the experts who participated in the teaching days for your involvement and support to the development of the preceptorships!!!
