EHA-SWG Scientific Meeting on Red Cell and Iron Metabolism Defects:

The second edition of EHA-SWG Scientific Meeting will examine the red cell and iron biology in relation to the erythropoietic differentiation process

The European Hematology Association Scientific Working Group (EHA-SWG) on Red cell and Iron has organized the second Scientific Meeting “From basic science to clinical case application” next 7-9 November in Madrid, chaired by ERN-EuroBloodNet member representative Achille Iolascon.

This edition will be focussed on examining the red cell and iron biology in relation to the erythropoietic differentiation process and especially devoted to the analysis of the mechanisms that allow the enormous cell production in order to better understand the alterations responsible for red blood cell disorders.

In addition, the program will examine all the possibilities regarding diagnosis and treatment of both inherited and acquired conditions of anemias. The meeting will start with an introductory lecture discussing the general molecular physiology of erythropoiesis and iron homeostasis and the rest of the meeting will focus on clinical cases based for the different conditions, with interactive discussion.

The meeting is part of Topics-in-Focus program on Hemoglobinopathies, aimed at raising awareness, providing education, furthering research, and building a network of experts with the ultimate goal to improve patient care.

A selection of clinical cases will be eligible for acceptance during the meeting. More information on the full program, registration and clinical case submission can be found at dedicated EHA website
